The Interparliamentary Policy Panel on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), aims to advance
political leadership and strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of protected area systems through
improved policy, legislative, and financing frameworks. The meeting will convene Members of
Parliament, government representatives, international organizations, NGOs, and technical and financial
partners to exchange experiences and identify actionable solutions for sustainable ocean finance.
A central objective of the session is to encourage participating parliamentarians to take decisive action to
strengthen the financial sustainability of protected areas through enabling legislation, stronger public
budget allocations, and improved policy coordination across sectors. Discussions will explore a broad
range of public finance and market-based mechanisms for the conservation and sustainable use of
biodiversity and ecosystem services in coastal and marine environments. The session will also provide an
interactive platform for parliamentarians and stakeholders to share national experiences, discuss barriers
and opportunities, and identify areas for regional and international collaboration to support long-term
investment in marine conservation and resilient blue economies
